Purpose: The purpose of this study was to suggest the projected manpower of psychiatricmental health APN in Korea. Method: Ratio methods and expert opinion were used for projecting the number of psychiatric-mental health APN.
Results: 1) In 2001, There are 61,769 psychiatric-mental patients, 60,733 psychiatric-mental health beds, active 3,641 psychiatric-mental nurse, and 879 active psychiatric-mental health APN in Korea(2,116 registered psychiatric-mental health APN. 2) A
psychiatric-mental health APN per 60 psychiatric-mental bed and 2 psychiatric-mental health APN per public health center were assumed as manpower standard. 3) The number of psychiatric-mental health APN required to meet the demand for caring of psychiatric-mental patients in 2002, 2005 and 2020 was estimated at 1,502, 1,527 and 1,5642,157, respectively.
Conclusion: To project future increments and development in supply of qualified psychiatric-mental health APN, it is necessary to open the master program.
